The purpose of this organization is to raise money for children who have rare illnesses. The aim is to provide assistance to these children in order to improve the quality of their lives. In 2007 between five and ten volunteers will traverse Saskatchewan (North to South) to raise money for degenerative childhood blindness. The bequeathed funds will be used to breed, train and deliver as many seeing-eye dogs as possible to the children who suffer from degenerative childhood blindness. The recipients of the seeing-eye dogs will be selected by a committee, which will be appointed by the Board of Directors. Selection will be based upon a written, recorded, or video submission. This cause will be open to open to all children of Saskatchewan between the ages of 8 and 16 years, who suffer from a form of degenerative blindness, which has lead to a major impairment of their vision (major impairment being either 20/2000 vision or worse in the better seeing eye or a reduction of 50% or more of the visual field in the better seeing eye).
In subsequent years additional childhood illnesses will be selected based upon the same criteria. Firstly, it must be a childhood illness. Secondly, it must be an illness that receives little attention because it affects only a small proportion of Saskatchewan citizens. And thirdly, donated funds must go directly toward some action that improves children’s lives now, rather than research, which aids future solutions.
